IT SEEMS like Vice President Sara Duterte is determined to run for the highest position in the country in the 2028 national elections.
Duterte initially expressed her intention to run for president when she went to Japan and met the Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs).
She reaffirmed her previous remarks in a recent interview with News5.
“We need to be competitive with our neighbors in the region and the rest of the world. We’ve been left out and we don’t want this to continue,” Duterte told News5.
As candidates gear up for the upcoming midterm elections, Duterte admitted that she is unsure of the impact of her endorsement as she has been dealing with ccusations of corruption and looming impeachment.
“I’m still thinking about how I could participate in the 2025 elections because I’m unsure if my endorsement would help or harm candidates,” she said.
Duterte said she has to think it through properly if her endorsement would benefit the candidate. If so, she would be happy to endorse, she said.
Duterte's political battle has somehow affected her trust rating from the public.
Market research firm Tangere in its latest survey showed that Duterte’s satisfaction rating dropped from 45.5 percent to 40.6 percent, while her trust rating also went down to 47 percent from the previous 53.4 percent.
Duterte is facing at least three impeachment complaints, all related to her alleged questionable spending of government funds in the Office of the Vice President and during her stint as Secretary of the Department of Education (DepEd).(LAO)
