THE Filipino-Mexican pair of Alex Eala and Renata Zarazua has been sent home after they lost in the second round of French Open on Friday, May 30.
Eala and Zarazua bowed to Olga Danilovic and Anastasia Potapova, 1-6, 3-6, in a match that only needed 65 minutes to complete.
The Russian-Serbian tandem was quick to assert themselves as they raced to a 4-1 lead in the first set. Eala and Zarazua couldn’t find their game going as, after badly losing the first set, they found themselves down big early in the second match, 0-4.
Eala and Zarazua tried to rally, moving within 2-4 before the winning pair stretched the lead to 5-2. The Filipino tennis ace threatened at 3-5 but Danilovic and Potapova dominated the ninth game to ice the victory.
Though she failed to reach far in the competition, it was still a productive stint for Eala as she scored her first-ever Grand Slam main draw victory when she and Zarazua defeated British Emily Appleton and Spaniard Yvonne Cavalle-Reimers in the opening round, 7-5, 6-4.
Eala also saw action in the singles but faltered in the first round, losing to Colombian Emiliana Arango in three sets.(CCM)
