Eala to compete in Ohio as US Open nears
WITH her campaign in the National Bank Open (formerly known as Canadian Open), Alex Eala will take a short but much-needed break before competing again in Ohio.
Eala’s next competition will be in the Cincinnati Open, which, just like the National Bank Open, is a WTA 1000 event.
The Cincinnati Open is scheduled from Aug. 13 to 23. It will be a key tuneup for Eala’s campaign in the US Open set later this month.
Eala was ousted from the National Bank Open after she bowed to the world No. 14 Belinda Bencic in the Round of 16 on Monday (Philippine time), Aug. 10, 4-6, 0-6.
The Swiss star Bencic proved too much for the 25th-seeded Filipina as she advanced to the quarterfinal round of the same tournament that she ruled in 2015.
The defeat snapped Eala’s seven-match winning streak–a searing run highlighted by a historic run at the Mubadala DC Open last week.
The 21-year-old Eala ruled the Mubadala DC Open for her first-ever WTA title.
At the National Bank Open, Eala earned a first-round bye beating Alycia Parks, 6-1, 4-6, 6-2, and then Caty McNally, 6-3, 5-7, 6-4.(CCM)
