GILAS Pilipinas will head into the 2025 FIBA Asia Cup with a high morale after they clipped the Macau Black Bears, 103-98, in a fiendly on Monday night, July 28, at the Araneta Coliseum.
The Nationals battled back from a 21-point first half deficit, banking on Justin Brownlee to prevail in a match that served as part of the squad’s preparation for the upcoming FIBA Asia Cup in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Gilas is set to leave for Jeddah on Wednesday, July 23. The team’s first assignment in the FIBA Asia Cup will be against Chinese Taipei on August 6.
Gilas and Chinese Taipei are bracketed in Group D along with New Zealand and Iraq.
Brownlee powered Gilas against Macau, firing 32 points and grabbing 15 rebounds. Brownlee dumped 15 of total output in the final quarter where the Nationals tore the game apart after trailing big late in the first first half, 35-56.
Dwight Ramos pitched in 19 points, six assists, four rebounds, and two steals, AJ Edu contributed 15 markers while Kevin Quiambao and Scottie Thompson chipped in 14 and 10 points, respectively.
Jenning Leung led Macau with 15 points, 17 coming in the first two quarters that sparked the Black Bears’ rampaging start.(CCM)
