Man dies after being punched by drunk friend

A 21-YEAR-OLD man died after he was punched by his drunk friend during a drinking session in Barangay Nailon, Bogo City, Cebu on Wednesday night, March 11.

Police identified the fatality as Marvin Alburo Malinis.

The suspect, Bryan Mangalos Bahinting, 20, was arrested after the incident.

Police investigation showed that the two men joined a group of friends in a drinking session to celebrate the birthday of the victim’s nephew.

Lt. Col. Alan Rosario, chief of the Bogo City Police Station, said in the middle of the drinking session, Bahinting became rowdy and started throwing bottles.

Because of Bahinting’s drunken behavior, Bahinting and his friends decided to go home.

Bahinting and his friends were about to leave aboard a motorcycle when the suspect approached them.

Police said Bahinting first punched Niño Bagon, who was hit in the left eye.

The suspect then confronted Malinis and punched him in the jaw. Malinis fell off the motorcycle and hit his head on the concrete pavement.

Police said the victim was seen convulsing after falling to the ground. He was rushed to the Cebu Provincial Hospital in Bogo but was later transferred to a hospital in Cebu City.

The suspect was later arrested and charged with attempted homicide.

Rosario said that when they learned that the victim died three days after the incident, the complaint against the suspect was ammended to homicide.(CDB)
