THE confetti didn’t fall on Wednesday night, July 23, when the TNT Tropang 5G repulsed the San Miguel Beermen, 86-78, in Game 5 of the 49th PBA Philippine Cup Finals at the Araneta Coliseum.

The Beermen came into the match with the intention of wrapping up the series but the Tropa had other plans, banking on a strong start to stall the opponent’s championship aspirations.

TNT is still down in the series, 2-3, but could make the series more interesting when it shoots for another critical victory in Game 6 slated Friday, July 25.

Poy Erram sat out with an injured foot, further decimating a TNT squad that has been missing the services of top guards Rey Nambatac and Jayson Castro.

The Tropa was forced to use a nine-man crew but the manpower woes hardly mattered as they never looked back after ending the first quarter with a 27-20 lead.

Brandon Ganuelas-Rosser led the way for TNT with 18 points, leading six TNT players in double-digit outputs.

Ganuelas-Rosser and Kelly Williams dropped a combined 28 points that helped the Tropa build a 41-31 cushion at the bend.

Williams finished with 14 points, Calvin Oftana and Jordan Heading added 13 markers each while Rogery Pogoy and Almond Vosotros each had 11.

Jericho Cruz led the Beermen with 20 points with Marcio Lassiter and June Mar Fajardo as the only other San Miguel players in double figures with 15 and 13, respectively.
