VP Sara's husband files perjury raps against Trillanes

MANASES Carpio, husband of Vice President Sara Duterte, has filed a perjury complaint against former senator Antonio Trillanes IV over allegations involving the Duterte family’s alleged hidden wealth.

The complaint, filed before the Pasig prosecutor’s office, accused Trillanes of making false and defamatory claims in his sworn affidavit and testimony before the House justice committee in April, a report by Philstar stated.

Trillanes previously revived accusations first raised during the 2016 elections, claiming that members of the Duterte family, including Sara Duterte and Carpio, maintained undisclosed bank accounts.

He also alleged that the Vice President and her husband had more than P111 million in bank deposits as of April 2016.

The former senator linked the alleged funds to supposed drug-related activities involving Davao-based businessman Sammy Uy.

Carpio, however, argued that Trillanes’ statements were malicious and without basis, prompting him to pursue legal action against the former lawmaker.(Angel Sheane G. Dumas, CNU-Main Campus BA-Comm Intern)
